Epilepsy affects millions of people worldwide, and for many, seizures continue even after trying multiple medications. Drs. Fan, Sugrue, and Krystal are developing a new non-invasive ultrasound treatment aimed at reducing seizures and improving quality of life. Using focused sound waves to target deep brain regions involved in epilepsy, the team is working toward more personalized interventions, while also using brain imaging and EEG recordings to better understand how the focused ultrasound changes brain network activity.
