Novel Blood-Brain-Barrier-Penetrable Treatment for Neurodegenerative Diseases

Parkinson's disease and other neurodegenerative disorders share some common biological pathways that make brain cells vulnerable to damage, creating opportunities to develop treatments that could benefit multiple diseases. Dr. Guo's project is developing a novel drug that can cross the blood-brain barrier and target a specific protein in the dopamine-producing brain cells, which are most affected by Parkinson's disease. By protecting these vulnerable neurons, this approach aims to slow the progression of early-stage Parkinson's disease and may ultimately have broader applications for other neurodegenerative disorders.
