Disabling chronic primary pain conditions like fibromyalgia currently lack objective biomarkers to facilitate prompt and accurate clinical diagnosis. Drs. Motzkin and Shirvalkar, through use of a new device combining non-invasive transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) with electroencephalography (EEG), seek to study key brain-based measurements in patients with widespread pain to develop diagnostic and prognostic algorithms to improve pain care and provide new insights into the brain mechanisms of chronic primary pain disorders.
