An estimated 35,000 periprocedural strokes occur annually in the United States in patients who are under anesthesia for a procedure. Despite close monitoring, anesthetized stroke victims rarely receive time-sensitive life-saving stroke treatment with endovascular therapy. Dr. Caffarelli is developing a neurophysiologic monitoring software solution—NeuroSentry—that will provide vital ancillary stroke detection during anesthesia, enabling early diagnosis and treatment of periprocedural stroke.
