Harnessing Novel Diagnostics to Advance Detection of Neurologic Infection

Drs. Abate and Chiu are developing methods for detecting infections of the central nervous system using a novel digital PCR technology, responding to the pressing need for more efficient and comprehensive diagnostic tools in diseases like meningitis, encephalitis, and myelitis. The method, invented by Dr. Abate, is called Partitioned Amplification Capillary Electrophoresis (PACE), and surpasses current limitations in diagnostic PCR and offers a sensitive, accurate, and highly-multiplexed pathogen detection tool.
