Deciphering the Origins of Diabetic Neuropathy

Drs. Yuan and Babey – a cellular neurobiologist and an endocrinology physician-scientist, respectively – are collaborating to advance mechanistic understanding of sensory nerve damage, an essential step towards developing effective treatments for diabetic neuropathy, the most common chronic complication in type 2 diabetes. Though there are medications for pain relief, treatments that target the underlying nerve damage are currently lacking.
