Light Microscopy at the Innovation Core: Becoming a Core User

Light Microscopy Home > Becoming a Core User

All prospective users must be registered on iLab and trained by Core staff (and only by core staff) before using any core instrument.

Step One: Request Training

To request training, please follow the process outlined below:

Register in iLab
  1. Go to https://ucsf.ilab.agilent.com/service_center
  2. In the upper-right-hand corner of the screen click ‘Login’ and select the ‘Click Here’ link if you are a UCSF employee. You will be directed to an authentication page where you will need to enter your UCSF credentials.
  3. Once you have entered your credentials, click the ‘Login’ button. You will be directed to an iLab registration page where you will need to select your PI/Lab and verify your contact information.
  4. Once your registration has been submitted, your PI or an assigned iLab account manager for your lab will receive a notification that you have requested membership to their lab in iLab. They will need to approve your membership and assign any Account Number for your use.
Create a training request form
  1. Once your lab has approved you, go to https://ucsf.ilab.agilent.com/service_center. Click the 'Login' button at the upper right hand of the page and log into your account.
  2. Select the 'Weill Innovation Core'
  3. In the request service tab select 'training' and initiate request. You will be asked to complete a form before submitting the request to the Core. Do not forget to hit the submit button at the bottom of the page!
  4. The Core will review your request and be in touch ASAP.
Complete the laser safety training (for laser-based systems)

In addition to the training request for laser-based system you will need to complete the UC laser safety training. Please make sure to keep this training up to date (renews every year)

  1. Login to the UC Learning Center website https://learning.ucsf.edu/elearning with your UCSF credentials.
  2. Search trainings for 'Laser safety' and complete the 'Laser Safety for Campus Users' training course.
  3. Download the 'diploma' (use the 3 dots on the top right to find it).
  4. Go back to the Weill Innovation Core iLab (https://ucsf.ilab.agilent.com/sc/6100/weill-innovation-core/?tab=services) and under the request service tab use the 'laser safety certificate submission' and click on 'initiate request' and follow instructions.

Step Two: Pre-training Consultation

Once I have received your training request, I will contact you to schedule a pre-training consultation to discuss your project goals, imaging needs, and the appropriate systems for your use. From there, we will schedule training session(s).
